Materials & finishes

The stone, block and timber we build with — and why.

A garden is only as good as what it's built from and what sits underneath it. Here's a plain-English guide to the paving, driveway surfaces and fencing we install, so you can walk into a free quote already knowing roughly what you're choosing between.

Patios & paving

Every patio we lay is bedded on a consolidated sub-base and set to correct falls, so water runs off rather than pooling or working back toward the house.

Porcelain tiles

Crisp, contemporary and about as low-maintenance as paving gets — near-zero staining, colour-stable through the seasons, and easy to keep clean. A popular choice for a modern, uniform finish.

Kandla Grey Indian sandstone

A riven natural sandstone with soft grey tones and real texture underfoot — a warm, characterful surface that suits both period and new-build gardens. The stone one reviewer chose to replace their old patio.

Natural stone — limestone, sandstone & granite

For a natural look with genuine depth of colour we lay limestone, sandstone and granite. Each weathers and ages differently; we'll talk you through which suits your garden's light and style.

Block paving

Hard-wearing and available in a wide range of colours and laying patterns, block paving is as at home on a patio as it is on a driveway, and individual blocks can be lifted and reset if ever needed.

Driveways

A driveway carries a car's weight every day, so we dig out and build up on a proper sub-base with drainage designed in — the surface on top is only half the job.

Block paving

A classic, durable driveway surface in a huge choice of colours and patterns, laid on an edged, compacted base so it carries the load and sheds water.

Tarmac

A clean, cost-effective and quick-to-lay surface that gives a smooth, uniform finish — a practical choice for larger or straightforward driveways.

Imprinted concrete

Patterned (imprinted) concrete gives the look of block paving or natural stone in a single continuous, weed-resistant surface, coloured and sealed to suit the house.

Natural stone & gravel

Natural stone setts for a premium, characterful frontage, or gravel for a softer, well-draining and budget-friendly finish — laid over a proper membrane and edging so it stays put.

Fencing

Good fencing is straight, solid and set to last. We supply and install lap larch panel fencing and can repair or custom-size existing runs.

Lap larch panels — 4ft, 5ft & 6ft

Supplied and installed in three heights to suit boundaries, screening and gates — from a low 4ft divide to full 6ft privacy.

Timber, concrete or gravel board posts

Concrete posts and gravel boards keep the timber up off wet ground so panels don't rot at the base — the route to a fence that lasts. Timber posts remain an option for a fully natural look.

Repairs & custom sizing

Storm-damaged panels, rotten posts or a run that doesn't fit standard sizes — we repair existing fencing and cut to fit rather than leaving awkward gaps.

Brickwork & walling

Brick and timber tie a garden together and hold sloping ground in place — built on the right foundations, they last decades.

Brick garden & retaining walls

Garden walls, boundary walls and retaining walls built in matched brick on proper foundations to hold ground and frame the garden.

Timber sleeper retaining

Chunky timber sleepers make handsome, cost-effective retaining walls and raised beds — a natural fit for informal and productive gardens.

Repointing & repairs

Raking out tired, cracked mortar and replacing it with a matched mix keeps water out of a wall and stops small problems becoming structural ones.
